HOW DOES THIS EVEN WORK? I GET IT. CREATING A BESPOKE WEDDING INVITATION SUITE MUST SEEM LIKE A VERY COMPLEX TASK AT FIRST . AM I RIGHT?
So let me explain… the magic word is process, which doesn't sound very wedding-like at all, right? But it makes all the difference despite stirring up images of Excel spreadsheets and advanced formulas.
Think of it another way then: designing your wedding stationery is like going on an awesome journey with me as your tour guide. It’s my job to lead you through it in the most pleasant and stress-free way possible and point out all the great sights along the way.
Now let’s dive into the details:
STEP 1: LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT
So you’ve seen my portfolio and immediately fell in love with my mad skills? Can’t blame you. I’d love to hear from you so why don’t you send me a digital love note.
STEP 2: FIRST DATE
Working on your wedding stationery is a big deal so we are going on a (Skype) date to get to know each other better.
You can ask me anything you like to help you decide if we are the right fit for each other. That’s really important, you know?
Then it’s up to you… are we having another date? No hard feelings if you want to move on, not all first dates go well.
I’ll eat a tub of ice cream and move on too, but I have the sneaky suspicion that you and I will like each other very much.
PS: Have you ever heard of Bride-zilla? No? Let me tell you there are some gruesome stories out there… I’ve never met her but if it turns out you are her, please don’t get upset if I very politely decline and then run as fast as my short legs can manage.
STEP 3: MEET THE PARENTS
Signing a contract? Paying a deposit? Homework? That doesn’t sound like fun, does it?
But don’t worry. It’s not as complicated or bad as you might think.
We just need to get a few boring but important things out of the way before we can focus on the fun part of this project.
And the homework? I promise you’ll love it. No number acrobatics, only some questions and a beautiful secret Pinterest board full of your brightest ideas to get our journey started.
STEP 4: GOING ON VACATION
This is going to be fun. And exciting. And maybe a little bit scary, but only at first. We’ll have another date (yay!) and talk about your vision for your invitations, look at the secret Pinterest board you’ve filled with beautiful images and discover what you like and don’t like… and if you’re still a bit unsure about which direction to take? Don’t worry, I’ll help you figure it out.
We also need to chat about your budget to see what incredible things we can fit into it. Then I’ll fill my beloved Sean Connery mug with my favourite tea or coffee (or coconut water if the Australian sun is shining down on me with 40 degrees plus) and get creative.
Together we’ll refine, tweak and edit your invitation design until you can’t stop smiling and maybe even shed one or two happy tears over seeing your vision come to life step-by-step.
STEP 5: MOVING IN TOGETHER
Now this is the grown up part where we behave like proper adults and do a lot of super important stuff. While you proof-read all the beautiful stationery pieces we’ve created, I’ll speak in more detail with the lovely people who’ll help us bring them to life (most definitely the printer, but we may need the help of other people too).
Once you sign off on the design and pay your final bills (paying bills… is there anything more grown up?), it’s time for you to take a well deserved break and wait for your invitations to arrive. I'll keep you up-to-date on a delivery date. In the meantime no nail biting or hair pulling. You’ll soon be walking down the aisle and have to look stunning.
STEP 6: THE PROPOSAL
Imagine dancing on a pink cloud to the tunes of “Happy”… that’s you 2 minutes after you’ve impatiently yet very carefully destroyed the parcel containing your beautiful one-of-a-kind invitation suite. All you have to do next is to shed a few happy tears, send out the invitations and wait for your friends and family to compliment your great taste and get crazy excited to celebrate with you.
PS: Occasionally I will add an unofficial Step 7 to our journey. It’s been so much fun so why stop, right? This happens for one of two reasons. You have asked me to create a wedding website for you, which I’ll work on as soon as we’re done with the invitations or you have chosen to add stationery items such as a menu, program or seating chart to your invitation suite. The menu and guest list are usually not fully confirmed until much closer to the wedding so we’ll have to wait until this information is available.
